A Krista Cottage is a modestly constructed 1200 square foot home. Traditionally it has 3 bedrooms and 2 baths with a combination living/dining/kitchen area. Appliances, ceiling fans and central heating and air are part of the cottage's amenities. The cost for materials is donated by church groups and individuals and most of the construction is done by volunteers. The average cost of a completed Krista Cottage is $36,000.

Meet Krista Waldrop, the inspiration, for the original Krista Cottage. After building the cottage for his down syndrome daughter, Harold Waldrop realized it would be the ideal solution for the substandard housing he saw in the poverty stricken areas of Madison County.
